Launching skincare on Shopify — without looking like every other DTC.

Eighty percent of indie skincare stores look identical because they all installed the same five apps on top of the same three themes. Here's how to ship a Shopify store that converts and looks like a brand, not a template.

PDP architecture that actually sells skincare

Order, top to bottom: hero image with the bottle at scale, one-sentence claim, key actives (percentage + function), how to use (3 steps with photography), full ingredient list with the "no list" called out, before-after or clinical reference, reviews, FAQ accordion, cross-sell.

Skincare buyers want evidence. Stack it.

The app stack we install on day one

  • Klaviyo — email + SMS, the retention engine.
  • Recharge or Subify — subscriptions for refill SKUs.
  • Junip or Okendo — review collection with media.
  • Rebuy — cross-sell and post-purchase upsells.
  • Triple Whale or Northbeam — attribution once you're spending past $5k/mo on paid.

Five apps. Not fifteen. Every extra app is page-weight and a monthly fee.

Subscription strategy for skincare

Default to a 30 or 45-day cadence based on the actual bottle life — not "monthly because that's the default." Offer a 10% subscription discount, not 20%; you'll attract committed customers, not discount hunters.

Lock in subscription at the PDP (radio button), not in the cart. Conversion lifts double-digits.

Performance: where Shopify quietly costs you sales

Page weight kills mobile conversion. Compress every PDP image under 200kb. Lazy-load reviews. Defer third-party scripts. Aim for an LCP under 2.5s on mid-tier Android — that's where 70% of your paid traffic actually lands.

Templates to avoid (you'll know them when you see them)

  • Full-bleed video hero of "model touching face."
  • Three-up "natural / vegan / cruelty-free" badge row.
  • Default Shopify product gallery with white background only.
  • "Our story" page that opens "It started with a problem…"
