  • Freight + duties. A 500-unit shipment from Korea = $1,200–$2,500 you didn't plan for.
  • 3PL onboarding. $500–$1,500 in setup, then $2–$4 per unit handled.
  • Trademark filings. $250 per class, three classes typical = ~$750 minimum.
  • Sales tax registration in every state your 3PL holds inventory.
  • Reshoots when the packaging photographs poorly on Instagram (it will).

What "started for $500" actually means

It means dropshipping someone else's white-label formula at a 1.5x markup, with no exclusivity, no brand, no defensibility, and a customer base that evaporates the moment a competitor undercuts you on Meta.
